tree with single or absent terminal buds.
The bark is rough.  Twigs are yellowish.

  11.  Deeply ridged bark.
           Brittle twigs.  Tree can grow very large.
           Commonly along ditches and roadsides.
           If so, see black willow.

  11.  Small tree or large shrub.
           Twigs similar to black willow but flexible.
           If so, try peachleaf willow.
