You selected:  An alternately-branched
shrub with single or absent terminal buds.
The bark is rough.  Twigs are normal size.

  10.  Shreddy bark.
           Usually growing under other trees.
           May have curled, light brown leaves still present.
           If so, try ironwood.

             or

  10.  Terminal buds are usually missing.
           The last bud does not grow from the very end
           of the twig (you'll have to look close sometimes).
           Shrub is often in a wetland or ditch.
           If so, try shrub willows.
