You selected:  An alternately-branched
tree with single or absent terminal buds.
Buds are NOT sticky.
Bark is smooth & light-colored.

  8.  Bark is usually light gray to white.
        Buds are shiny and about 1/8 inch long.
        Side buds hug twig close.
        If so, try quaking aspen.

          or

  8.  Bark is gray to olive-green.
        Buds are dull, not shiny, 1/8 to 1/4 inch long.
        Side buds point slightly away from twig.
        If so, try bigtooth aspen.
