  5.  Twigs with corky or warty ridges.
        Bark is thick, even on younger trees.
        Acorns have a fuzzy cup.  An uncommon tree.
        If so, try bur oak.

  5.  Twigs smooth without growths,
        color is often greenish-maroon-brown.
        Acorn cups without fuzz.  An uncommon tree.
        If so, try white oak.

          or

  5.  Twigs are gray and slender with a bitter taste.
        Usually a shrub.  May have dried cherries.
        If so, try pin cherry.
