ROADWEEDS OF THE UPPER PENINSULA

Wild parsnip is a tall plant with multiple heads of small yellow flowers.  These heads are called "umbels".   Once cultivated for the white taproot, the species is now widespread.  The foliage may cause irritation among people with particularly sensitive skin, especially on hot summer days.  The plant that wild parsnip might be confused with is common tansy, another exotic species.
