ROADWEEDS OF THE UPPER PENINSULA

A common plant of disturbed places, especially those that are dry and either sandy or gravelly.  The yellow-spiked flower stalks may stand 6-7 feet tall.  You'll often see it along the gravel shoulders of roads.  The soft, fuzzy leaves can't be mistaken for anything else.  There are several species of mullein in Michigan.  All are exotics from Eurasia but only two are widespread throughout the much of the state.
