ROADWEEDS OF THE UPPER PENINSULA

Birdsfoot Trefoil (Lotus corniculata)

BFtrefoil2.jpg (52681 bytes)

This is the only species of Lotus in Michigan, no relation at all to the lotus water lily (Nelumbo lutea and N. nucifera).   Not only does have value as a forage crop, but it has also been used for erosion control and seed to rapidly revegetate roadside contruction.
