"badder".
At least if your only concern is carbon dioxide!
As trees age, their use of oxygen tends to catch
up to their use of carbon dioxide. Also, older forests
and older trees usually have more decomposers,
which consume oxygen and give off carbon dioxide.
On the other hand, older forests contain more
carbon than younger forests, because there is
more wood volume.
